Our Purpose
The goal of Practicing Significance is to provide information and references to aid you in glorifying God by fulfilling your own unique purposes through the never-ending action of acquiring, using, and sharing diverse resources. We hope to reach persons who are retired, will retire, or are interested in improving or changing themselves to lead lives of more significance.
In order to provide information and references, this website includes:
· Lessons about various topics which have information we believe to be the most critical. These topics are in two general categories: purposes, goals and planning; and, general information about various subjects.
· Recommended reference books and websites which are shown in the lessons, at the end of lessons, and/or the home page.
· A way to contact us for more information.
From time to time we add and update the lessons and references. If you have recommendations for lessons or references, please feel free to contact us. Our goal is to eventually provide information and references about most subjects which are critical to leading a significant life (although we will leave the deeper theological subjects to others who are more qualified.)
It is our intention that our material reflects a Christian worldview in which the Word of God as revealed in the Bible is the foundation and the final authority for everything we hold true. This is well expressed by the Westminster Confession of Faith written in 1647 A.D.: “The whole counsel of God, concerning all things necessary for His own glory, man’s salvation, faith, and life, is either expressly set down in Scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture: unto which nothing at any time is to be added, whether by new revelations of the Spirit, or traditions of men.”
The Bible provides much instruction and many admonitions about living significantly. An excellent passage comes from the prophet Jeremiah: “Thus says the Lord: ‘Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.’”
